Research group on afterness

This research group focuses on the afterness of an armed conflict, genocide, mass destruction/extinction. The Holocaust, Yugoslav and Chechen Wars, the Rwandan genocide, or killings under the Khmer Rouge regime are large-scale atrocities having different forms and degrees of political and legal ending. People who have suffered from and witnessed these atrocities experienced different processes of acknowledgment or delays in recognizing their experience. In these and other cases, historical justice, reconciliation, or the search for coexistence are often problematic and conceptually difficult. Research group on afterness explores these questions at the individual and group, institutional and international, narrative and representational levels.
