Project idea

The aim of the project is to investigate the Lithuanian socio-political processes and regularities emerging during the election period, by conducting a longitudinal national election study with an international post-election survey module. The project, on the one hand, aims to ensure the continuity of the Lithuanian national election studies and participation of Lithuania in the Comparative Study of Electoral Systems (CSES) collaborative program. On the other hand, the focus of the new study will be on two new aspects that have not been analysed in previous studies - the vote choice in direct presidential elections and the use of innovotive methods of computational text analysis for the research of electoral campaign and policy discourse.
During the project, representative public opinion surveys will be carried out after the 2019 presidential and European Parliament elections and after the 2020 Seimas elections, the online voting advice application manobalsas.lt will be developed for the 2019 presidential and EP elections and for the 2020 parliamentary elections, innovative methods of (semi)automated text analysis will be applied to the electoral campaign analysis, the research results will be presented to the Lithuanian and international academic community in conference papers and peer reviewed articles in English and Lithuanian.
