Project idea
This summer internship will explore the relationship between people and Soviet architecture and urbanisation in Lithuania. The focus of this study is the young people who grew up after the restoration of independence. On the one hand, they are confronted with reformed new content in schools and public places, on the other hand, people who grew up after 1990s lived and acted in the remaining Soviet-era forms, such as housing estates and similar public buildings. The USSR regarded architecture and urbanisation as essential tools for shaping a specific way of lifestyle, so the investments were significant. Thus, the question remains: what is young people‘s relationship with the objects of Soviet architecture and urbanisation. In this summer internship the aim is to understand this relation by conducting 3-4 focus groups, each with 4-5 participants from the same places.
