Jean Monnet Networks: Transatlantic Network for Dialogue, Education and Multidisciplinary Research (TANDEM)

Project idea

TANDEM connects 18 higher education institutions from Europe, the United States, and Canada with the shared objective of fostering a broad and informed dialogue on transatlantic relations. The network aims to collect, evaluate, debate, and disseminate innovative research and educational materials, enabling partners to strengthen their research and teaching agendas while engaging key stakeholders in well-founded discussions on EU-North America relations.

TANDEM leverages (a) an integrated, multi-layered approach to data collection and peer review that incorporates perspectives from Europe and North America; (b) a multidisciplinary group of scholars with expertise in critical areas such as trade and investment, the digital economy, green transitions, human rights and democracy, security and defence, and multilateral governance; (c) comprehensive approach to education in a digital age with a study visit programme for young leaders from partner institutions to engage directly with transatlantic institutions and experts and exchange of best pedagogical practices, and (d) a flexible mobility scheme that will promote in-person interaction by supporting scholars as visiting researchers or guest lecturers across partner institutions, establishing a lasting legacy of transatlantic academic and educational cooperation in critical times.

The network activities will be organized around a carefully designed work plan aimed at maximizing in-person collaboration and wide dissemination. TANDEM will submit one special issue proposal to a leading academic journal based on in-person workshops and showcasing innovative insights from the network’s research collaborations. Other dissemination tools include a website with blogs, webinars, podcasts, expert and student surveys, and a regular newsletter series with rotating editorship among network members to share the latest developments and findings.
