Description:

The book analyzes how the practices of border creating and territorial control (acting in various ways since the end of the 20th century in
Abkhazia and South Ossetia) allows the formation of de facto statehood. In other words, border building practises not only separate two states but also allows to act like a state – thus, to be a state. Therefore, this monograph both analyzes a specific case and tells how the contemporary international relations work, what is the role of territories and borders and what does it mean to become a state in the 21st century world politics.

In 2017  The Association of Political Scientists of Lithuania recognized the monograph as the best political science publications of the year.
