Description:

The boundaries of cinema do not end up with movies. It is a work of many people, strategies of commerce and authors as well as different ways to show and to watch. This time women are in focus – on both sides of the screen, both visible and almost unnoticed for a long time – in early movies, in Soviet era works, and in contemporary cinematic practices.

This book consists of ten selected pieces and is the first to analyze the problem of gender in Lithuanian cinema from three different perspectives. What is the status of women, who takes a part in cinema industry – second directors, editors or costume designers? How can we read commercial, auteur, documentary, and art cinema if we bear in mind gender roles? Finally, how does gender reveal itself in specific films if we analyse it via lenses of different theoretical approaches?
