Annual Lithuanian Political Science Conference 2018

The Institute of International Relations and Political Science of Vilnius University (IIRPS VU) and the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) invite you to the annual conference of Lithuanian political scientists “Issues and Research in Lithuanian Politics”.

The event will take place on 30 November (Friday) at the IIRPS VU, Vokiečių str. 10, Room 402. Starting time: 10.00 am. The event is open to the public.

2019 is an election year. Elections are a core institution of modern democracy. However, recently there has been more and more talk about the fact that the electoral system in Lithuania is flawed, and that the elections, their process and their results only show the pathologies of democracy. The victory of the Brexit vote in the referendum has raised fundamental questions about the fate of the European Union and Britain’s role in Europe. Brexit, the Russian threat and other political events and phenomena raise questions on a daily basis about Lithuania’s place in Europe and in the world, and whether Lithuania should change its foreign policy orientations and objectives.

The conference will consist of three sessions devoted to these topics:

“Do we need to reform the electoral system?” Moderated by Prof. Ainė Ramonaitė, research presented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mažvydas Jastramskis, commentary by Member of the Seimas Aušrinė Armonaitė, Vice Mayor of Vilnius Gintautas Paluckas, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vincentas Vobolevičius.

“Should Brexit be a concern for Lithuania?” Moderated by Linas Kojala. The study is presented by Prof. Ramūnas Vilpišauskas. Commentary by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Albinas Zananavičius, Dr. Žygimantas Pavilionis, Marius Laurinavičius.

“Can Lithuania Have a Different Foreign Policy?” Moderated by Prof. Dr. Dovilė Jakniūnaitė. The research is presented by Prof. Dr. Tomas Janeliūnas, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Margarita Šešelgytė and Neringa Bladaitė, commented by Paulius Gritėnas and Eglė Murauskaitė
