Alexander Chubrik is a research assistant at the VU IIRPS and a PhD candidate at the same institute. His research focuses on migration and migration governance, securitization and security discourse, migrant integration and acculturation, and the role of values and social trust in shaping state-society relations.
He graduated from Belarusian State University with a degree in economics in 2000 and subsequently completed postgraduate studies there in 2003. Before joining Vilnius University, he spent more than two decades conducting applied research in economics and public policy. From 2011 to 2021, he served as Director of the IPM Research Center (research.by), one of Belarus’s leading independent think tanks.
Throughout his career, he has participated in and led numerous policy-oriented research and analytical projects in Belarus and internationally, collaborating with government institutions, international organisations, and research centres. His professional experience spans economic policy analysis, public governance, labour markets, social policy, and institutional development.
His current academic work focuses on migration processes in the context of geopolitical uncertainty, with particular attention to Belarusian migrants in Lithuania, migrant decision-making, integration trajectories, and the effects of securitization on migration outcomes.
In addition to his academic research, he has extensive experience in public engagement and policy dialogue. From 2013 to 2022, he served as Academic Director of the Kastryčnicki Economic Forum (kefbelarus.org), one of the leading platforms for discussing socio-economic policy in Belarus in a global context. The forum brought together researchers, policymakers, civil society representatives, and international experts.
