Public lecture-discussion “EU-Central Asia relations: opportunities and challenges”

Institute of International Relations and Political Science of Vilnius University (IIRPS VU) together with Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania invite you to the public lecture and discussion with EU Special Representative for Central Asia Ambassador Peter Burian that will take place on 13th of September, 4:45 p.m., at room 402 IIRPS VU.

The discussion will be moderated by dr. Konstantinas Andrijauskas, who is an Associate Professor at IIRPS VU.

Problems and opportunities of EU-Central Asia relations will be discussed together with Fabio Belafatti, PhD Student at the University of Groningen and Junior Assistant at Vilnius University’s Institute of Asian and Transcultural Studies and Živilė Dambrauskaitė, Senior Coordination Officer, Freedom House and Ambassador Peter Burian, who was appointed as the EU Special Representative for Central Asia on 15 April 2015.

Ambassador’s responsibilities include promoting good and close relations between the Union and the countries of Central Asia. He earned his degree in Oriental Studies at St. Petersburg State University. Prior to this appointment, Ambassador Burian served from 2012 as First Deputy Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic and was responsible for areas of security policy, economic diplomacy, development assistance, international organizations and the territories of the EU Eastern Partnership, Africa, Asia and Pacific, and Americas.

The event will be held in English with simultaneous translation to Russian.
