Public Lecture by Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva, Mr. Michael Møller “The UN in a World Full of Challenges”

Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania together with Institute of International Relations and Political Science of Vilnius University (IIRPS VU) invite to the public lecture by the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva, Mr. Michael Møller. Mr. Møller will deliver a talk“The UN in a World Full of Challenges” followed by the Q&A session.
In September 2015 the 193 Member States of the United Nations reached consensus on the outcome document of a new sustainable development agenda entitled, “Transforming Our World: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”. It contains 17 goals and 169 targets, which should be achieved by the end of 2030. The new goals are part of an ambitious and bold sustainable development agenda that will focus on the three interconnected elements of sustainable development: economic growth, social inclusion and environmental protection. The new goals are universal and apply to all countries.
In his lecture Michael Møller will give a presentation about the tools and methods taken by the UN in order to reach these goals. He will also talk about the challenges of global governance and system of the United Nations. Lecture will be followed by the discussion.

Mr. Møller began his career in 1979 with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. Later he was the Head of the Office of the Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs at United Nations headquarters. Mr. Møller also served as the Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Cyprus from 2006 to 2008 and was the Executive Director of the Kofi Annan Foundation from 2008 to 2011.
