Mr. Salman Khurshid lecture “India’s Foreign Policy before and after the General Elections: Keeping or Changing the Course?”

IIRPS in cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in India cordially invites you to participate in the lecture given by Former Indian Foreign Minister Mr. Salman Khurshid. November 4th (Tuesday) from 11:00 a.m. in the Conference Hall (4th floor).

Topic: “India’s Foreign Policy before and after the General Elections:Keeping or Changing the Course?”

Since Independence India has adhered with ease to a consensus on foreign policy despite changes in government on two occasions. The roots of the consensus went to the fundamental elements of our Independence movement and philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi. The recently elected government has made no explicit departure from that consensus. But it is inevitable that their strong views on domestic issues will tend to amplify certain features of contemporary conditions that had begun to be reflected in the foreign policy of the Congress government post the fall of Berlin Wall, the collapse of Soviet Union, and the emergence of new economic reality. How far and deep the changes will be successfully attempted will depend on their acceptability at home amongst ordinary Indians.
